Resume:

The Armenian Musical Assembly is a non-governmental, non-for-profit organization, established in 1994. Five composers and one musicologist have formed a group with the intention to promote and support modern Armenian Music worldwide. During the last 10 years, the organizational body expanded, and now includes also piano-players, violinists, vocalists, two Honorary Members and small administrative staff.

In the beginning, the establishment of the Assembly and its initiatives were enthusiastically encouraged by the Consul of Armenian Embassy in Great Britain, the English Trust Fund of Essefian Family and great Belgian music lover Mr. Christian Khachikov - first patrons and donors of the Assembly. Nowadays, we are closely working with the International Composers Union, British Council in Armenia, World Vision Arts Support department, Avet Terterian’s Music Fund and others.

At present, organization possesses a small, but nice by furnished Concert Hall, that provides 200 seats, and, in fact, this number is actually enough to create the regular audience and involve it into the activities of the organization, aimed at the support of best creative forces of Modern Music.

Activities:

The first concerts of the Assembly were held in spring 1995, with concert-tour dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide (1915). These concerts illustrated the guiding principles of the organizers and served as a basis for subsequent development of the organization’s activity. In all, beginning from 1995, more than 60 concerts have been arranged by the Assembly.

Three scientific conferences followed by theses publications were held under aegis of the Assembly. Dozens of regular meetings with composers and artists were organized, and several international music festivals (dedicated to anniversaries of Armenian composers Aram Khachaturian, Avet Terterian, Vahram Babayan) were held.

Since 2001 the Assembly started it’s contribution with “Komitas” publishing house. During following 4 years over 24 scores of Armenian modern composers were published and successfully sold worldwide, 3 CD collections of Armenian ethnic music were recorded and produced.

Goals and Objectives.

The idea from the very beginning was to combine the activities of all Armenian Arts and to reflect the worldwide attention both to the present and the history of the Armenian Culture.

Now, main activities of the Assembly are as follows:

1. To promote new creative forms of modern music in native country and abroad.

2. To establish close and fruitful art collaboration between Armenia and other countries.

3. To contribute to the development of gifted young artists.

4. To serve for the subsequent blossom of the Arts unity by all meanings.

International Cooperation.

As the Cultural Cooperation is one of the major points of it’s activity, the Assembly is closely working with Belgian, English, Italian, Swiss, Russian and Georgian artists and organizations, trying to establish a strong international collaboration system in all cultural fields. For example, the successful cooperation with the Belgian “AMADEUS” Association, contributed a meaningful page to the activity of the Assembly. Annual Music Competitions are held together with “AMADEUS” since 1996 and till present. Another example: Chamber Music Festival “Armenia-Georgia”, held in Tbilisi in 2001.

Now, after 10 years of it’s activity, we can say, that the endeavors of the organization have successfully contributed to the quality of life of music lovers in Armenian and abroad.
